Roseville’s Initiatives for a Sustainable Water Future

Roseville is proactively addressing water sustainability through several key initiatives aimed at ensuring a reliable water supply for its residents.

Water Recycling Efforts

The city produces recycled water at its wastewater treatment facilities, delivering approximately 1.25 billion gallons annually to over 200 sites, including parks and golf courses. This practice conserves drinking water by utilizing recycled water for irrigation purposes.

Aquifer Storage and Recovery Program

To enhance drought resilience, Roseville has expanded its Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) program. The city has introduced additional ASR wells, allowing for the storage of surplus water underground during wet periods, which can be accessed during dry conditions. Since 2023, these wells have stored 3,633 acre-feet of water, bolstering the city’s water supply reliability.

Energy Recovery Project

At the Pleasant Grove Wastewater Treatment Plant, Roseville is developing an energy recovery project that will convert waste into energy. This initiative aims to produce electricity for onsite use and generate compressed natural gas to fuel the city’s garbage truck fleet, contributing to environmental sustainability and operational efficiency.

Through these initiatives, Roseville demonstrates a strong commitment to securing a sustainable water future and enhancing the community’s resilience to environmental challenges.
